Education Connection event "Fit Together" targets education, support
and access to health resources for children and families in Northwestern
Connecticut
Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts presentation
Classical ballet training (CBT) is considered to be the most advanced
technical movement mechanics training in the world, providing a foundation
for the development of joint strength, postural alignment and precision control
of the human frame in space.
The result of a 20-year collaborative effort between Sharon E. Dante (Founder,
Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts) and Stephen M. Apatow (Founder, Sports
Medicine & Science Institute) has resulted in specialized programs that
enhance the technical development of the elite dancer in classical ballet
to applications for sports and Olympic development programs to orthopedic
analysis and injury prevention.

Utilizing the CBT mechanical ideal as a reference point, today’s presentation
provides an introduction to the science of classical ballet training, applications
to performance optimization and how deviation from this mechanical ideal
corresponds with the mechanism of joint stress and injury.
These educational resources have served as a reference point for programs
that include:
-
The course "Optimization of Classical Ballet and Sports Development
Programs," first introduced in 1999 at the National Conference for the Society
of State Directors of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (SSDHPER
- 73rd Annual Meeting Program) for U.S. Board of Education offices and health
educators representing all 50 states;
- Formal presentation as an accredited continuing education course
at the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and
Dance (AAHPERD) Combined Convention on February 12, 2003 in Reno-Sparks,
Nevada.
As the Nutmeg Conservatory for the Arts expands global training and education
programs, we would like to extend our continued support of initiatives that
address the needs of children and families in northwestern Connecticut.
